Michael McDermott Endorsed By Goetz, McMillan, and Johnson

Press Release from the campaign:

The candidacy of Michael McDermott, running on the Libertarian line of the New York State Governor’s ballot has scored a triple endorsement this past Saturday, October 11th, with high profile endorsements from Bernard Goetz, Jimmy McMillan, and Gary Johnson.

Bernhard Goetz is a New York City man known for shooting four young men when they allegedly tried to mug him on a New York City Subway train in Manhattan on 22 December 1984. He now advocates for marijuana legalization and 2nd Amendment rights.

James “Jimmy” McMillan III is a political activist, Vietnam veteran, and outspoken advocate of reducing rents and costs of living in New York, as well as having positions on many other issues important to New Yorkers.

Gary Johnson is the former Governor of New Mexico, and was the Libertarian Party’s 2012 Presidential candidate. He received the most votes ever for a Libertarian in that race.

In addition, Michael McDermott has announced his plan to reduce New York State income taxes to zero, saving each New York taxpayer an average of $4,000.00 every year in income taxes, to be paid for by reducing waste and reckless spending in the New York State government. Seven states in the U.S. currently have no state income taxes, Florida, Nevada, Texas, Alaska, South Dakota, Wyoming and Washington state.

The official endorsements were made public on Saturday, October 11th, at an event run by libertarian Ian Cioffi named Libertyfest, held for the last four years annually in Manhattan. This was the first Libertyfest to be held in Brooklyn, at the Warsaw club, 261 Driggs Avenue, near the Kosciuszko Bridge.

Michael McDermott is running on a platform of smaller New York State Government, lowering taxes on New Yorkers, and reversing the exodus of younger New Yorkers from the state. McDermott ran in 2012 for the 3rd Congressional District on Long Island, and has worked as a commercial real estate broker for the past several years in Long Island, New York.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it odd that GJ is listed last after a notorious convicted (possibly wrongly on some levels, but still) felon and a circus-clown (whom I find hilarious) pol?

I am advised that today is Wednesday, not Tuesday.

    Details details…..

    Eric–

Everyone loved “A Shot in the Dark”. Thanks so much!!

Mike and I have discussed the importance of radio advertising just as Warren, you and I discussed it four years ago. Mike intends to follow the Redlich/Sundwall plan, except also to get a few thousand more votes (no Kristin Davis or Jimmy McMillen in the race this year) so we’re over 50K.

    Fingers and toes crossed.

Most of the ad buys in 2010 were in the last two weeks of the campaign and primarily in the Albany and Syracuse markets. I want to say close to 10K in cost. I dony know the McDermott plan, if any. I did lend them the use of a commercial I produced in 2006, ” A Shot in the Dark.”

Oh. I thought he asked a rhetorical question (Also, is there a weirder pairing than McMillan and Goetz?) whereas I asked two actual questions. Thanks for the contact info.

  7. Mark Axinn October 18, 2014

I’m sorry Paulie. Since brunno77 posed the question, I meant that he should feel free to contact Mike.

I guess I should let people know how to do that: [email protected]

  8. paulie October 18, 2014

I’m posting them here in case anyone knows the answers if you mean me.

  9. Mark Axinn October 18, 2014

Feel free to pose your question to Mike McDermott.

All of them were at Libertyfest last Saturday. Mike was already in contact with Jimmy McMillan and Gary Johnson, and both said that they would endorse him. Goetz was there, promoting an end to the drug war, and Mike reached out to him as well.

Why was that addressed to me? I did comment on this thread, but not about the endorsements per se, more on general issues regarding the campaign (ballot order and ad buy volume now vs 4 years ago).

  11. bruuno77 October 18, 2014

paulie- I understand the potential upside to ‘advertising’ McMillan’s support (although most of his 2010 support was for novelty purposes). Goetz is another story but I suppose there actually might be some who might listen to him as well. I am just saying that announcing both at the same time just kind of highlights the wackiness of the two. And it kind of pains me having Gary Johnson in the same sentence. Also, is there a weirder pairing than McMillan and Goetz?

  12. paulie October 17, 2014

Yes, I notice a pattern. Did it suck this bad though?

  13. Mark Axinn October 17, 2014

Sucked four years ago. Sucked eight years ago. Sucked twelve years ago. Sucked sixteen years ago. Sucked twenty years ago.

    Sucks this year.

    Do you notice a pattern?

  14. paulie October 17, 2014

How does McDermott’s ad buy, if any, compare with Redlich’s in terms of volume?

  15. Mark Axinn October 17, 2014

Jimmy got over 40,000 votes for Governor in 2010. The Libertarian candidate (Warren Redlich) got 48,386 which was less than 1700 shy of the 50,000 needed for automatic ballot status for the next four years. Two years ago, Gary Johnson also got in the high 40’s.

If we pick up just 10% of Jimmy’s supporters and maintain our own level over the last four years, that’s the magic 50K.

  16. bruuno77 October 17, 2014

I am quite sympathetic to Mr. McDermott and am even thinking of voting for him but I have to say I don’t think he should be bragging too much about the Dynamic Duo of Mental illness (Goetz and McMillan).
